Mental Health Myths

We focus so much on our physical health that we often neglect our mental health, mind and soul. One reason may be some myths and misconceptions surrounding mental health. Let’s debunk these myths together:

1. Mental health issues are uncommon
The World Health Organization estimates that 1 in 4 people have been affected by some form of mental illness at one point in their lives. Your mind needs to be nurtured and taken care of in order to properly function.

2. Mental illness is not a real illness

Mental health illness is a real health issue that does not go away on its own. That’s why we have professionals in every field with resources and treatments available to help. A mental health check up is just as important as a physical health check up!

3. Mental health problems are a sign of weakness

Imagine how silly you look if you called a person with a broken leg weak. Mental health problems are an illness, not a sign of poor character. If anything, seeking resources to better your mental health makes you a stronger person!

4. Mental health will never affect me

All of us have been affected at some point in our lives, especially during the pandemic last year. You do not have to be affected or ill to go see a psychotherapist. A visit can range from a simple check-up to clear your thoughts or a deep dive into your issues. All your thoughts and feelings are valid, we are here to listen!

At Lite Mind Body Clinic, we welcome anyone who walks in our doors to de-stress and detox with us. We easily put our time, effect and money into things to take care of our physical bodies, but what about our mind? When was the last time you took the time and effect to do something good for your mind?
